Encouraging reading from Reception to Year 8
Our ‘Love of Reading’ project is in full swing. The lucky chosen pupil gives their favourite book to a teacher to read and review. Each week, a different pupil and teacher pairing meet up to discuss their favourite moments.
The brainchild of our librarian and head of English, the project aims to tap into our children’s passion for reading and encourage them to explore and share their interests.
Pupils' Book recommendations and staff reviews:
Year 2 pupil and Mrs Davies (Head of Year 4) - ‘The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish’ by Chloe Savage:
“I like this book because I’m very interested in the ocean and the polar regions. This book is about a lady called Dr Morley who loves jellyfish and is determined to find a jellyfish that everyone talks about but no one has ever seen...the Giant Arctic Jellyfish. This book is also good for young children because on most of the pages the Arctic Jellyfish is hiding – can you find it?”
Year 2 pupil
Mrs Davies: “If you like mysteries, animals, and underwater adventures, this book is perfect for you! It’s a fun, educational, and exciting read for young adventurers.”
Year 1 Pupil and Mr Cutting (Year 4 Teacher) - 'Bluey’s Night Before Christmas’ by Bluey:
“I like this book because it’s funny and my favourite part is when Santa’s hat gets stuck on the tree.”
Year 1 pupil
Mr Cutting: “The Bluey series of books is a combination of emotions, humour and life lessons. The creators have managed to design stories that appeal to both children and adults alike with some fabulous moments throughout. I identify with Bandit (Dad) very closely and I am sure there is a Bluey character for everybody. Which one is yours?”
Reception pupil and Mr Barker (Headmaster) - ‘The Great Dog Bottom Swap’ by Peter Bently:
“It is funny and I like looking at all the pictures of the different types of dog.”
Reception pupil
Mr Barker: “A very funny and well-written book, with a twist in the tail. I am sure that all dog owners, like me, would enjoy reading this and indeed find it very informative! As the book cover states, it’s Barking Mad!”
